The depiction of still-life scenes is well suited to pietra dura. 18th century Florentine artist Antonio Cioci, known for his trompe l’oeil designs, was the inspiration for the design of this antique vase.

The veining in the yellow chalcedony (calcedonio giallo) creates the effect of an antique, with the shading on the right-hand side giving a trompe l’oeil illusion. Malachite and lapis were used in the detailing.
