This vibrant image of a parrot is a wonderful subject for pietra dura. The use of Russian malachite for the head and verde valle d’Aosta from the Pyrenees for the body makes a fantastic contrast against the black marble. Particular time was spent inlaying the many leaves painstakingly inlaid one at a time.

Paesina from Tuscany was used for the branches and has the perfect texture to give the impression of bark. Valuable botryodial malachite sourced from the Urals in Russia was used for the head of the parrot.
